ANDREW FOSTER MEMORIAL COLLEGE

Andrew Foster Memorial College [AFMC] is named after Dr. Andrew Jackson Foster, a deaf black American educator to deaf Africans because of his illustrious education service to the deaf Africans. It is described as a sensitive, comprehensive six year high school program for the deaf. It offers Junior Secondary School [JSS] 1-3 and Senior Secondary School [SSS] 1-3 courses.
In addition, it has a fine science laboratory.
Admission into Senior Secondary School is open to student who have completed Junior Secondary School Three and passed the Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination by the State Ministry of Education. Final consideration is based on the candidate’s performance in the College’s Senior Secondary Placement Examination (SSPE). The questions for the examinations are in English Language and Mathematics. The extra testing is also to convince the College staff that the candidate has been adequately prepared for Senior School curriculum.
Deaf students seeking admission must have completed primary school education before they are allowed to sit for the college’s entrance examination in English Language and Mathematics.
Placement examination for any higher class requires passing all the subjects from JSS one to higher class. The school offers arts and science subjects including computer and vocational studies.
Candidates who seek to transfer into AFMC must pass the placement tests to determine his or her ability to be successful in the curriculum of the level into which admission is sought.
